Accepted Donation Items:

Appliances in working order

  • All sizes and types of appliances accepted
  • Please be sure that appliances have all working parts and are free of rust
  • Please include the owner’s manual if possible

Architectural Items such as:

  • Columns
  • Mantels
  • Antique and stained glass windows
  • Porch posts
  • Molding and plinth blocks

Bathroom Fixtures such as:

  • Sinks: vanity sinks with base cabinet. Kitchen sinks that are stainless steel and free of rust are also accepted!
  • New toilets (due to sanitation issues, we cannot accept used toilets)
  • Shower pans and metal bathtubs

Cabinets in good, clean condition with doors attached

  • Please be sure there is no water damage, mold, or dried-on food
  • Please include all doors, drawers, shelves, and hardware
  • Please remove nails or staples sticking out (ouch!)

Doors in usable condition

  • Solid doors only, please!

Electrical Items

  • Lighting fixtures
  • Lamps
  • Ceiling fans
  • Approved breakers/boxes
  • Switches
  • Wires
  • Plugs
  • Plates
  • Hardware associated with electrical wiring


  • Flat panel TVs in good working order
  • DVD, Blu-Ray, and/or CD players in good working order with necessary cables. Please include owner’s manuals if possible.
  • DVDs, Blu-Rays, CDs, Records


  • New wood flooring
  • New tile
  • Bound carpeting (sorry, we cannot take cut carpet remnants!)
  • Please, no laminate or sheet vinyl

Furniture in good, quality condition

  • Bed frames
  • Dressers and night stands
  • Dining room and kitchen tables
  • China cabinets
  • Chairs
  • Outdoor furniture
  • We kindly request all furniture be in ready-to-sell condition, without need for repair, with no rips, stains, holes, broken doors or glass, pet hair, odors or excessive wear.

Roofing Materials

  • Full bundles of shingles and tar paper that are in original packaging


  • Wood interior siding in groups of 2
  • Full boxes of vinyl exterior siding (no cracks, please!)
  • Full-length pieces of j and f channel, as well as interior and exterior corner pieces


  • Hand tools
  • Tool boxes and tool cabinets
  • Power tools in working condition with all needed parts


  • Complete units with sashes and frame
  • Casement windows with all hardware and cranks
  • Window screens that are free of rust, rips, or holes
  • Shutters
  • Please be sure windows have no damage, no missing panes, no rot, no fogged glass between panes and have the ability to be reinstalled


  • Lawn and garden tools, including working lawn mowers
  • New mattresses and box springs
  • Scrap metal for recycling

Unfortunately, there are some items we cannot accept for donation.  We have tried to provide a comprehensive list of those items below, but if you have any questions about your potential item, please contact the ReStore at 301-662-2988 so we can assist you!

Hazardous Waste:

The ReStore cannot accept paint or chemicals due to their hazardous waste qualities.

Frederick County Government hosts two free drop-off events each year to help residents dispose of hazardous waste products like paint and chemicals.  Learn more here.

Used Toilets

The porcelain in used toilets can be recycled! Ecology Services Refuse & Recycling is an option to recycle your old toilet. Learn more here.


The Department of Solid Waste Management will take old tires and recycle them at Reichs Ford Road Landfill.

Pet Products

Animal Control of Frederick County accepts donations of a variety of pet products. Visit their website here.

Children’s Car Seats

Care Net Pregnancy Center accepts donations of usable car seats. Visit their website here.

Babies R Us periodically offers a “trade-in” promotion to trade in your old car seat for a discount off a new one. Learn more here.
