Habitat Needs Affordable Lots |

Frederick--Something is wrong in a community when public servants like teachers, firefighters, police officers and other public servants need to go outside the county---and the state, even---to find a home they can afford. This problem is even more acute for all those others who make less money than these public servants. For sure, there is an affordable housing crisis in Frederick County. The issue has been in the public eye for some time and one can only applaud the efforts of the Affordable Housing Council, local officials and various other entities to remedy the problem. |

Habitat Hires New Executive Director |

Frederick–Habitat for Humanity Board President Ron Cramer has announced that Dr. David Ozag will begin serving as executive director of Habitat on April 4. “We are delighted to have Dr. Ozag as executive director because he brings over twenty years of progressive experience in various skills associated with managing a non-profit organization,” said President Cramer. “These include skills in accounting, financial management, human resources, project management, system administration, fund-raising and volunteering. He is experienced in the many tasks associated with managing an organization,” he concluded. |

Habitat for Humanity Joining National $21.7 Million Affordable Housing Effort |

Frederick--Habitat of Frederick and the Thrivent Financial for Lutherans Mid-Atlantic Region will build a home in Brunswick as part of a nationwide effort to create additional homeownership opportunities with low-income families. The proposed Brunswick home is one of eleven Thrivent will build in Virginia, Maryland, Delaware and the District of Columbia. “This is a very exciting partnership for Habitat,” said Ron Cramer, board president. “Because of Thrivent Builds with Habitat for Humanity funding, we will be able to build one more home this year. That’s one more family in simple, decent and affordable housing.” |

Habitat Celebrates Ten Years of Community Support |
|
Frederick--Success means different things to different people. But to supporters of Frederick’s Habitat for Humanity, success means twenty-three affordable homes in ten years! As Executive Director Kent Adcock recently put it, “There have been millions of nails driven, hundreds of thousands of board feet of lumber cut and hundred of gallons of spackling and paint applied since Habitat started building its first house in 1995.” Now, twenty-three homes later, the twelve-year-old non-profit can look back with satisfaction on what it has done, but only because it has had unwavering community support. |
