Dozens of area businesses routinely help Habitat. They donate money, building materials or labor during building projects. Some reduce the prices of materials and supplies or sell at cost to help us. In 2001, Ausherman Homes brought together a number of contractors in a week-long blitz build of a duplex in Frederick. In 2006, Drees Homes built a single-family home in Emmitsburg in another week-long blitz. Also, in 2006, Freddie Mac and CitiGroup are sponsors of the home built on Blue Mountain Road in Thurmont. Area businesses have also provided outright grants or interest-free loans to help fund projects. Local restaurants often donate meals to volunteers at the home construction site. Smaller or specialized businesses have provided landscaping, moving, and similar services to help complete the homes. In addition, many companies have allowed employees to work on company time on building projects they underwrite. Through our new Dream Team Training Program, Habitat helps our business partners experience hands-on training and develop team skills. This training strengthens the Habitat-business partnership, while promoting high levels of productivity. Thanks to these partnerships with the business community, we are better able to achieve our affordable housing mission.
