“I would love nothing more than to own a home and be able to show my children that all of our struggles and all of the sacrifices I have made for them have been worth it. I want them to grow up and be proud of me knowing that I did this for them.”
Habitat for Humanity of Frederick County is proud to be partnering with Rebecca Lookingbill to build her new home at 733 Park Avenue in Brunswick.
Rebecca, a lifelong Frederick resident, has been a single mother to her two children, now age 11 and 6, for six years. While pregnant with her second child, Rebecca discovered their father was in the throes of addiction. She is separated and has been her children’s sole provider ever since, living in her parents’ small house and sharing a bedroom with her son to make ends meet. As an employee of UnitedHealthcare for more than 12 years, Rebecca makes a good income, but with two children to care for, and the high cost of housing in Frederick County, she has been unable to afford a place of her own. Now, through her partnership with Habitat, Rebecca will help build her own 3-bedroom, ranch style home. When the build is complete, Rebecca will purchase her home through a low-down payment loan at a price deeply subsidized by Habitat. The result will be an affordable mortgage payment that secures Rebecca’s financial stability and independence for years to come with a safe and decent place to raise her children.
The plans for Rebecca’s home:
3-bedroom, 2-bath, ranch-style home with mudroom and front porch.
Expected Start Date: May 2018
Expected Completion Date: November 2018
